From The West Coast To The Deep, Deep South

This morning, I saw my first armadillo since my sister picked me up at the Houston airport and drve us 3 hours deeper into Texas. The prehistoric looking critter was ambling around out by the burn pile this morning. He finally waddled off into the woods.

Shifting from the West Coast to Deep East Texas has been quite a transition. Mom can not stay alone so I'm here as long as necessary.

I forgot how different my home state of Texas is from every other place in the world.

A bobcat crossed the road on my way to town Friday. Before that, I saw an animal that I did not even know existed. It was like seeing a unicorn. I almost could not believe it. It was a solid white deer. Others in town said they were rare but real.

I take that deer sighting as a good omen. It's been quite a ride since I arrived in the deep, deep South. One man was trying to tell me he wanted to sell a 'fakir' so many times I finally had to ask him to spell it. Turns out, he was trying to say 'half acre' but had condensed it to five letters.

It is nothing short of code talking here at times. "The devil's whipping his wife," one man announced.

After a moments thought, I remembered that to mean that it is raining while the sun is shining. We dress funny. We talk funny. I love us.

It's not enough to wear a belt buckle. It does not even count if it does not look like the door off a car. Hats are de riguer and it's going to need to be hand creased. Straws in the summer; felts in the winter.

Just like it always has been.

There is one horse on our property that is a former champion.Lynx still stands proud and tall. He lives where I am staying and I was told he bought home many of those shiny buckles that cowpeople wear as trophies of rodeo wins. He's over 20 years old but that does not stop him from bucking around in the past before a storm.

There is funny little horse called Pedro that keeps getting my attention. I've told him everything. He wanders around and follows me whenever he can. Last night, he patted me down for carrots and we saw a shooting star together.

The sporks (spoon / forks) are cross breeds between miniature horses and donkeys. There are a pair of them and they are the first hoofed animals that I have ever seen wrestle. They love to bray-night and day.

Horse and cows are everywhere as well as donkeys of all shapes and sizes. Turns out they are more than lawn ornaments that eat, the smaller equines keep coyotes and poisonous snakes away.

I tried to get Pedro to chase away a chicken snake but he just stepped over it. They only get excited when their lives are in danger but the long, black creature was easily five feet long and I did not like him in the yard.

Temperatures are just above freezing and Spring is start to show in the new growth on the trees. So goes life here in the Piney Woods of Deep East Texas. Stay tuned for updates and additions to our little slice of paradise called Misfit Island.

Charter to the World Series

It has been played since 1903. The New York Yankees have won it twenty seven times, and the Houston Astros, San Diego Padres, Milwaukee Brewers, Texas Rangers and four other teams are still looking for their first win. What is it? It's the World Series and it's a highlight for sports enthusiasts each fall.

The World Series does not really encompass the world, as it's a baseball series pitting whoever wins the American League against whoever wins the National League.

In fact, games in the big series have only been played outside of the United States twice, in 1992 and 1993 when the Toronto Blue Jays were part of the big show. And in reality, it's not named after the world as in the planet we live on, but instead named after a newspaper that was popular back in the day.

No one can predict which teams will play in the World Series, and so no one knows which stadiums in which cities the games will be played in, but if your home team is not part of the show, you'll have to travel to watch whoever is playing battle it out and that's where chartering a jet comes in.

delta airlines flights

It's probably cheaper than you imagine and it ensures you have a lot less hassle and bother when you charter a jet rather than going commercial. Gone are the lines for security and the hustle and bustle of a large and busy airport.

Gone are the cramped quarters and noisy atmosphere of a crowded and hot commercial airline. Instead, you can charter to whiche city you wish in the comfort of seats with plenty of leg, head, elbow and shoulder room which can also be configured however you wish. Want to take just your family with you or maybe you're having a guy's weekend with a bigger party?

No worries, a charter can accommodate everyone and best of all you know your luggage will arrive with you at your destination.

When the Chicago Cubs won the World Series in 2016, they ended a whooping 108 year daught, giving the most years without a win title to the Cleveland Indians who's total sets at 68. You've been flying commercial for all of your life, isn 't it time you ended your daught and tried going by charter?

We do not know who will contest the next World Series, but we do know getting to those cities by a charter jet is the way to go!

Poker Strategies – Perfect For Texas Hold’em

In Poker, the game 'Texas Holdem' needs to be played with smart poker strategies.

For the beginners, this poker game has a practical stance with some disastrous implications.

An important thing for the beginners to know is that the poker hands shown on television shows do not well represent an ideal poker player.

All the famous poker players like Ted Williams, Magic Johnson and others have spent hours on the basic poker fundamentals and they do follow smart poker strategies. In fact, they devote more time for the improvement of those areas in which they are not much good.

Like any other poker game, 'Texas Hold'em' has some basics that are not very obvious, but these basics must be mastered by the players as part of the poker strategy for achieving excellence.

The first poker strategy that comes is – Discipline . It does not matter what special skills you have if you do not have discipline. It is always good to work hard on the discipline.

The Bets – The bet is the most important element in poker. We can refer the 'Chips' as protons or electrons, but a bet is the basic block of everything that takes place in poker be it good or bad. All the ring games in poker revolve around the bet place by the players. (The case of Tournaments is different.

In tournaments, surviving and being the only winner is a concept that does not relate to the ring games.) In Texas Hold'em, but you try to achieve the best of it on the bet you place. In this game, a player wagers money, he places bets, with a suggested and analyzed favorable anticipation. Although it does involve aiming to win the pots, however this is not the main goal of a player, so the whole efforts should not be focused on this.

It does not matter whether a player wins or loses, the main motto is to get the money in. So, do not worry about the unimportant things, instead focus on doing the right thing.

The Blinds – Poker is a game of a continuously thinking player. In Poker when the bets are placed without thinking wisely either by bad or good players is not a good thing, a bet is the basic money at the stake. A wise player who believes in playing with poker strategies, should play the game with complete focus on the bets he places thoughtlessly.

Now if you have placed the bet without thinking much, then apply this poker strategy – attack the bad players as well as the blinds. In Texas Hold'em, the thoughtful players have an edge when compared to the semi-thoughtful players. Actually the thoughtful players have terrible edges for their bets they place thoughtlessly. Do not forget his 'Thoughtful' poker strategy.

Limit vs No Limit – No Limit 'Texas Holdem' tournament poker is different from Limit 'Texas Holdem' ring game poker.

Most of the winning tactics that are used by the players in 'No Limit' are either useless in the Limit 'Texas Hold'em' ring games. Here's reference works well – "The chainsaws may be good to things in a better way, but for some tasks, the butter-knives are perfect solution. cut butter ".

Starting Hands – One poorly considered conecpt of Texas Hold'em that the most beginners have is that they focus correspondingly on the starting hand groups.

Texas Holdem is game that is more of a post-flop rather than a pre-flop, but the beginners fixate on believing the starting hands guidelines. You completely miss the main game point when you play without understanding why you are playing a specific hand. And also you should know properly that how you intend to play it after different flops.

So, always learn how and of course, why play hands. It is simple – learning how to play this complex game means you actually start understanding the reasons for "what" you are doing.

Become smart enough to make intelligent decisions. By following the above poker strategies, you will certainly win the game. Best of Luck !.

Texas Common Law Marriage

Common law marriage is recognized in a few states, and Texas happens to be one of them. Texas defines it as an informal marriage, rather than common law. Houston divorce lawyers are experienced in both traditional and informal marriage divorutions and can answer any questions you have on this subject. A Houston divorce lawyer understands this unique law and how it is applied in Texas.

www.frontierairlines.com

Under section 2.401 of the Texas Family Code, an informal marriage can be established either by registering with the county without having a ceremony, or by meeting 3 requirements showing evidence of an agreement to be married; living together in Texas; and representation to others that the parties are wedded.

allegiant airlines flights

In order to register an informal marriage, a declaration approved by the bureau of vital statistics must be signed. Each party must provide proof of age and identity, and state that they are not related to each other in any way. Finally, they must agree to the printed declaration and oath found in section 2.402 of the Family Code. It reads:

"I SOLEMNLY SWEAR (OR AFFIRM) THAT WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, ARE MARRIED TO EACH OTHER BY VIRTUE OF THE FOLLOWING FACTS: ON OR ABOUT (DATE) WE AGREED TO BE MARRIED, AND AFTER THAT DATE WE LIVED TOGETHER AS HUSBAND AND WIFE AND IN THIS STATE WE REPRESENTED TO OTHERS THAT WE WERE MARRIED. SINCE THE DATE OF MARRIAGE TO THE OTHER PARTY I HAVE NOT BEEN MARRIED TO ANY OTHER PERSON. THIS DECLARATION IS TRUE AND THE INFORMATION IN IT WHICH I HAVE GIVEN IS CORRECT. "

Even if you do not register with a county in Houston, a couple may have a common law marriage if they meet these three requirements:

1. The man and woman agree to be married

2. The man and woman cohabitate in Texas

3. The man and woman hold out to other parties that they are married

Informal nuptials are recognized under Texas law the same as if the couple were formally wedded. This means that common law couples may need Houston divorce lawyers to help them legally end the relationship. Both partners are responsible for debts as well as care and support of any children from the marriage. Therefore, it is important to discuss a possible separation with a Houston divorce lawyer.

A new provision of the Family Code was added in 1995 that states either partner in a common law relationship has two years after separating to file an action to prove that the nuptials did exist. However, even if the time has expired for you to obtain a legal dispute, other measures can be taken to get orders for payment of child support and visitation for children. You should talk to a Houston divorce lawyer about your options.

There are two ways to end an informal marriage. If there have been children or if property and debts remain undivided, you will want to seek advice from a Houston divorce lawyer about a traditional divorce. However, if there are no children or contested property, you can separate; and under the new law, if neither person affirms that a marriage existed within two years of the date when the parties stopped living together in Texas, then it is assumed that the parties never entered into matrimony in the first place. While this does not automatically mean that the matrimony never exists, it does mean that the burden of proof falls on the person trying to prove there was a legitimate common law marriage.

When an informal marriage does exist; either person can file for a formal divorce. It is always advisable to hire a Houston divorce lawyer if there are contested issues involving property, finances or children. In formal divorce agreements, matters such as child support, child custody, and property division will be determined by the court. Thus, it is important to seek the counsel of an experienced Houston divorce lawyer.

Putting to Rest Top 3 Texas Divorce Myths for Doctors

While a recent Harvard Medical School study suggests doctors are among the types of professionals with high-stress level occupations that are least likely to get divorced, when a doctor and significant other do decide to go their separate ways, it can get messy. However, there are a number of common misconceptions about what actually goes down when a doctor gets a divorce in Texas.

What to Know About Doctors and Divorce

There are several things doctors and their spouses assume, usually incorrectly, when it comes to divorces in Texas. They assume because Texas is a community property state, the community property will be divided equally. They assume once a doctor starts practicing medicine in Texas and gets divorced that the doctor's practice (particularly if it is very successful) is going to have a high value and result in big award for the doctor's spouse. They also assume the doctor (particularly if very successful) is going to pay a lot of court ordered maintenance or alimony.

All Three Assumptions are Very Wrong in Texas

While Texas is a community property state, community property is not automatically divided 50/50. Texas is a so-called discretionary community property state, meaning that the community estate of the parties is divided in a manner the court "deems just and right, having due regard to the rights of each party and any children of the marriage." In other words, the property may be divided disproportionately between the spouses. Texas is among a handful of states with community property division laws. Doctors in other states with equitable distribution property division laws may run into similar problems.

My Former Spouse is a Doctor and I Do Not Work, the Court Will Use That in Its Decision to Award Property – Right?

There are about 15 different factors the court can take into account when divining the property – the disparity of earnings, education and health of the parties; fault in the breakup of the marriage; any separate property owned by either party; and the nature of the property. No mathematical formula exists for a judge to use when dividing property – it is all within the judge's discretion.

If all factors are equal, the court will almost always divide the property 50/50. As more factors favor one party, most judges will move toward awarding 60 percent to 1 party and 40 percent to the other.

The Working Spouse / Medical Student Burden – Does not Matter

Everyone has heard about the working spouse who struggled working nights and weekends to support their spouse through medical school, only to find that as soon as their spouse became a successful doctor, the doctor "did them wrong" and divorced them. People assume that because the doctor is finally very successful, his or her soon-to-be ex-spouse is going to get a big chunk of money. Again, they usually are wrong.

How Do You Even Go About Calculating the Value of the Doctor in a Divorce?

Texas Courts have long held that in valuing the community estate of the parties, all value that is attributable to "the personal ability, skill, integrity or other personal characteristics" of the doctor must be excluded from the value of the community estate.

At first, many people are shocked by this. However, if you stop to think about it, all of these hits are so-called "personal hits." Some people are better students than others; some people are willing to work harder than others; some people are simply smarter than others; some people are more handsome, beautiful or just plain ugly; some are very smooth and polished while some are uncouth. When people get divorced, they take their personal experiences with them.

For example, if Cindy Crawford were to get married, she brings great looks to the marriage. If she gets divorced, those looks and her ability to capitalize on them go with her. In Texas, a "spouse is not entitled to a percentage of his or her spouse's future earnings."

Business Value is Separate from a Doctor's Personal Traits

To the extent a doctor owns a business, the business may be valued in a Texas divorce, as long as the valuation of the medical practice techniques exclude the doctor's personal goodwill – the general reputation of the doctor, the value of his or her work ethic , his or her personal trait, customer patronage and loyalty.

For example, if a doctor runs an anesthesia practice, radiology practice or emergency room practice, which provides services to, say, ten hospitals and has long-term contracts with the hospitals in addition to a scheduling staff, billing staff, computers and contracts with health care providers, then the business may be valued. However, the doctor's personal good will have to be excluded from the valuation.

Even a solo doctor's practice may have some value. If the doctor personally owns the equipment, a building and has large accounts receivable, there will be some value to the practice. The way the business evaluator usually determines the value is by assessing the fair market value of the equipment, building and the accounts receivable, assuming the doctor will go down the street, rent an office, buying some new equipment, start calling the health care providers and run an ad touting the doctor's new practice after the divorce is finalized.

As the Non-Physician, Can I Seek Alimony?

Yes, but if granted it will be very limited. Many people living in Texas come from other "non-community" property states where anonymously is handed out freely, but because Texas is a community property state, it limits alimony much more strictly.

Texas has adopted "rehabilitation alimony," which in Texas is called court ordered maintenance. The purpose of rehabilitation alimony is to rehabilitate the recipient, so that person can reenter the job market. It's important to know it's not freely awarded. In fact, there is a strong presumption against awarding court ordered maintenance in Texas.

When You Just Might Get Alimony (But Not Always)

Court ordered maintenance may be awarded to a spouse if the marriage was at least ten years in length, the spouse who is seeking alimony lacks sufficient property to provide his or her minimum reasonable needs and is unable to support himself or herself. There are many nuances in the law of court ordered maintenance in Texas, but many cases fall into one of three categories:

• You are unable to support yourself through appropriate employment because of an incapacitating physical or mental disability.
• You are the custodian of a child with a physical or mental disability that precludes employment outside the home.
• You lack the ability to access the labor market to provide for your minimum reasonable needs. It typically helps if the court sees that the recipient is seeking education or training to re-enter the work force.

Conclusion – Not All is Fair in Love and Medicine for Doctor Divorces in Texas

Several conclusions can be drawn about doctors and alimony in Texas. First, even if a doctor is a high-income individual, the doctor may end up paying no equivalent or court maintenance in a Texas dispute. Secondly, even if you are married to a high-income doctor, in a Texas divorce, you may not get any liability or court ordered maintenance. Even if a spouse is awarded alimony or court ordered maintenance, it is probably not going to be great, since it is based on the recipient's minimum reasonable needs. And finally, if you have been married less than ten years, you are not eligible for alimony or court ordered maintenance in Texas under most circumstances.

Bass Fishing with Tubes: The Texas Twist

We all know how effective tubes fished on internal weighed heads can be. The fact is that if you only use them this way, you are seriously hampering the true potential of this bait and its versatility. I've discovered, many years ago that fishing a tube in weed choked waters was a great way to catch fish. The problem I encountered was the open hook continuously and unmercifully getting snagged all day long. To combat this, I simply tried to rig the tube on a Texas rig. Ultimately I settled on a brass and glass type rig that has always rated well for me. This rig mixes sexy tubes, scent and sound to form a complete package of bass grabbing attention.

Equipment: 6-6 medium fast action spinning rod. The best rods for this method are high modulus models with a solid backbone. I use a Kistler Helium LTA 6-6 He66MS. This rod provides me with light overall weight and a soft tip but also the brute gorilla strength to yank larger bass toward the boat. Not finesse fishing you say? Well consider that I normally use 8lb line and often drop that down to lighter 6lb Yo Zuri Hybrid. Even in the thickest cover, I've gotten by with the lighter lines. You could utilize a 20lb super line like Sea King's 20/6 or 14/4. These will help slice through vegetation with ease. I prefer a fairly fast ratio reel. For tubing, I go with Shimano, no surprise, Sustain 2500 FD. This reel is as dependable as they come.

Terminal Tackle: My tube rig works best with brass Weenie Weights. I like 1/16 or 1/8 Top Brass Tackle Weenie Weights painted black. The weenie weight is simply a shorter, wider sliding bullet that weight is made of brass. This produces much better sound amplification and is environmentally friendly. For hooks, I use either Sugoi 3/0, 3/0 Owner Rig n hook or a 3/0 Gamakatsu EWG. What sets this method apart from standard Texas rigs is that I use a fire polished faceted glass bead. This accomplishes two things. First the bead reflects light and flashes. I truly believe that this is one of the best attributes of the rig. Secondly, the bead and the weenie weight slap back and forth, so sometimes appealing fish to its location. The fire polished, faceted glass beads are super hard and will not cut your line.

The Tube: The Only tube I use is a Wicked Tube by Micro Munch Tackle. This bait is a thick walled hand dipped tube that holds the hook nicely. The double thick wall gives the tube durability and is necessary in the thick cover to prevent tearing. Fish do not hold on to the bait, they eat it. This tube is dipped in a salt impregnated plastic mix and then Kick N Bass scent is added to the plastic before the tubes are molded. This produces a tube that is noticeably stinky.

This tube rigged on a Sugoi 3/0 hook has figured for me in almost every tournament I've fished. If you have been paying attention so far, you will notice that this rig uses sight, scent, taste, and sound to tantalize Mr. Bass. If you've ever fished with the Wicked Tube you certainly have not noticed the oil slick the bait produces in the water. Its odor will have every cat in the neighborhood clawing to get in your dry storage box to get at them. I prefer the standard 4 "tube but occasionally I will upgrade to the larger El Gordo style tube. , not too many other anglers throw it regularly. Its size alone may intimidate some.

Colors: I prefer the following colors; Green Pumpkin, Black Grape, Water Melon Magic, June Bug, Smoke Purple Flake, Road Kill Camo, and Black Red Flake. I match the glass bead to the bait. Black, Brown, Purple, or Green beads will match all the previously mentioned colors.

Rigging: This rig can be set up just like the traditional Texas rig. Slide the Weenie Weight up the line followed by the glass bead. It is not necessary to peg the weight or the bead. Next tie the hook on with a Palomar knot for strength. Bury the hook point about a 1/4 inch dead center in the head of the tube. Pull the hook through the side of the bait until the hook eye enters the tube head. Next pop the hook back into the side and pull the point through, penetrating through the opposite side of the tube (back out again). The tube should be straight. The point of the hook should be exposed and tight to the fleshy side of the tube. The exposed point allows for easier penetration on the hook set. The hook does not have to penetrate the extra plastic in the tube, so sticks into the fishes' mouth with minimal effort.

————————————————– ——————————

"With this rig I usually notice one of two things: either I feel the bass chewing on the tube, similar to a plastic worm pick up, or I do not feel the bait at all which means a bass has picked it up and is usually moving off with it. "

————————————————– ——————————

The Presentation

This tube is very effective in 8ft of water or less. Its light weight will not allow it to be fished effectively beyond that depth. Because it is weedless, it can be fished just about anywhere and if you add a heavier weight, you can certainly probe the depths with it. I prefer docks, boathouses, any overhead cover, inlet points, and flats. Of course the rig will work anywhere provided cover cover can be found. The rig works when skipped under or through cover. This is what sets the rig apart from conventional tube rigs. The tube itself is weightless. When cast the Weenie weight falls away from the bait and slowly drifts to the bottom. The tube flutters to the bottom even slower. Its slow fall is a crucial trait to its success. Standard tube rigs that are internally weighted spiral to the bottom.

They are directly weighed and fall through the strike zone faster then the Texas rig. As the weight of the Texas tube rig slides forward, it slowly pulls the bait along. This is the reason I do not use bait casting gear. Flipping and pitching are not accurate presentations for this rig. I aim to skip my bait past the target so it slowly falls through cover. After I cast to a piece of cover, I try to maintain a tight line because very often the bait is stuck just as it enters the water. If I do not feel a strike, then I may jiggle the rod tip to get the bead and weight to make some noise. I then let the tube fall on controlled slack line and cover the lower column of the water I'm working.

I do not fish this bait in open water as I would prefer internally rigged tubes for that. I target specific visible cover and try to pick it apart as best as I can despite the "falling away from cover" action the bait has. Getting the bait to skip is the real art of an accurate presentation with this rig. Sometimes I will try to crash bait through cover so it actually passes by my target. This is because a forceful cast will not allow the weight to create drag on the cast and keeps the bait on target. The bait will pass through the cover and remain in the strike zone longer. You may also be able to feather a skip cast to put the bait right on the target. The 1/16 oz weight will not pull the bait as much as a heavier size.

Get the brass weight and glass working to produce some sound. I move the rod tip ever so slightly, perhaps only an inch or two at a time. You do not want to over exaggerate your movements. The slight movements are key because you do not want to physically move the bait while you are trying to make it sound off.

The Bite: Many tube bites simply feel like a mushy wet rag on the end of the line sensation. With this rig I usually notice one of two things: either I feel the bass chewing on the tube, similar to a plastic worm pick up, or I do not feel the bait at all which means a bass has picked it up and is usually moving off with it. This happens because the tube is weightless and the bass does not feel resistance in the form of an unnatural internal weight. Normally the line will just start moving off. Polarized sunglasses are a must for this technique. It is important with this and most other jig techniques to "weigh the line". What this means is to learn what the bait feels like in the water. Usually any lighter or heavier sensation is a strike. When I detect a strike I really like to crank the hook home. Even though I tend to use light line and set my drag tight, I rarely break off on a fish. Normally if I hang a monster, I will disengage the anti-reverse and back reel. I use a sweeping set as this allows me to move more line than the standard over the shoulder jig jerk. I'm not exaggerating when I say that fish does not spit the tube out. They just do not. They really do eat it.

Seasons

The Texas rig tube excels during the early spring and through early fall. I simply prefer to fish other baits at different times of the year. It is an excellent big fish attractor because it has a thick profile and does not give off many, if any, negative cues. Rigged with a glass bead, it looks to all bass senses' and like I stated earlier, "These tubes get eaten". The combination of salt and scent are hard for any bass to reject.

Alternatives

The Texas rig tube is a very consistent producer. If by chance bass want a different look, there are several alternatives. I'm a big fan of finesse techniques from the West coast. My sleeper tube rig is the same rig, but with the bead pegged 18 inches above the hook. The sinker is still free to slide and a striking fish will not feel extra weight. This rig can be crept along the bottom similar to a Carolina rig. This is a noisier presentation as the bead and weight are always in contact.

We all know that tubes are very versatile. I have used these tubes to work bass on inside / outside weed lines with amazing consistency the last few seasons. This is one of those great baits that nobody should be without. It can be especially important to guys who do not prefer to throw a jig.

Basic Poker Techniques

Texas Holdem Poker is probably the most famous form of poker, where raising is an important part of the game, but not the most important: Imagine you are bluffing a pot with a large bet: whatever your opponent does, you will either be better or worst off (worst if he calls, better if he folds). When someone at that table makes a large bet, you have three options: fold (I don’t want to play these cards), call (I want to see more cards) or raise (I am happy with those cards). Therefore, there are more options in calling/checking than in raising the pot.

Let’s go over some of the betting techniques for playing on the internet:

The raises:

It’s all about timing.

OK so you are after the big blind, and you call with a mediocre hand (J9). If you really are going to call, leave it a couple of seconds before you call; this might give the impression that you got a great hand, but are devising a strategy for winning big on this pot. Than when the dealer or one of the blinds raise, you can do a super fast all in. that way, it looks like you were just waiting for a player with a hand good enough to call so you could go all in with your fake pair of aces.

Same thing when you are small blind: you have called with a bad hand (78) but still want the money; Give it a few seconds before you check the flop. If the player raises instantly, you can either fold if you think he has a good hand, or go all in, pretending to have a two pair trips. Do not try these techniques more than once a round (every time the button goes round the table) or you will loose big time to people who noticed you are a looser.

Similarly, poker is all about timing, so if you have not had a good hand for a while, raise the pot a fair amount, and place a large bet provided someone is not already doing this.

The Calls:

Calls are my favourite way to make money. Calls allow you to do whatever you want with your opponent if he is speaking before you: if he raises and you call him quickly, he will be put off next round, which is when you bet large if he checks, and raise again if he raises. By that point, if he does not have an amazing hand, he will think you do.

But even more fun, is to have a huge hand (AA, KK, AK, QQ) and calling all along. It can be dangerous to allow players to see cards when you have a pocket pair in case a flush or even two pairs come out, but if there is a strong hand available on the table, you will see it coming with a medium sized raise (1.5-2x the minimum bet).

When you have a flush draw on the flop, meaning you have 4 cards of the same suit and need a fifth one, you have a chance of around ½ of making it (2 times 1 out of 4). This means that you could go all in, but you d have about as many chances of getting it than not, therefore take a long, long time to call instead. This will give your opponent the creeps, whether he raises or not, giving you the edge on the pot.

Folding:

is annoying, but usually wise. When you play ten players, you usually want to see around 25-30% of the flops, so make sure you only play on your good cards.

Extremely Successful Tricks To Win Texas Holdem

If you are someone who wants to win at the poker table instead of lose, you need to discover these tricks to win Texas Holdem now.

Are you someone who's always at the losing end of the table at most poker nights? If so, do not you feel that it's time that you too should have some tricks up your sleeve?

Well, there's no time like the present, and that is why in the following article I will explain some easy tricks that will help you get an edge on your fellow poker players the next time you play Texas Holdem.

The first thing to remember is that Texas Hold Em is not a really a game of luck, and the people who believe this generally end up losing. It is an intellectual game where you have to use your brain and skill instead of relying on your luck.

You must be apt at calling people's bluffs, as this would definitely give you an edge in the game. Analyze your opponents' gestures and expressions, look out for both signs of disappointment and pleasure on their faces.

One of the most important and fundamental tricks of Texas Holdem is to always maintain your poker face. Keep your face completely blank, your facial expressions or body movements should never let the other players know what you're thinking about.

They should not see your excitation when you have good cards, either should your face show any disappointment when yourcards are just not right and you're on the verge of folding.

Another Texas Holdem trick that will take you a long way is quickly playing your high pairs and other good starting hands before the flop.

Always avoid drawing to the low end of a straight, which means that if you get 7, 8 and 9 at the flop, you should not play with, 6 and 5 or even 6 and 10. You really want 10, Jack.

When playing with low pairs you should be very careful; pairs like 66 down to 22. Low pairs only work great in late positions and they can be used at the Turn and River when you see that nobody else has strong hands. Then you can take the pot with your lower pair.

A good trick that can really help you in Texas HoldeEm is betting a pair of high cards or an ace after a worthless flop. However this only works when the whole flop consists of unrelated cards of either low or medium value. But, it is always better to fold if one of your opponents launches firs, t after the worthless flop.

Always keep your eye on the flops of 6, 7 and 8 because they can turn in to a straight which can exceed a high pair and also some other worthy hands.

To be successful at Holdem it is very important that you know all the possible combinations of the hands, so that you can quickly determine your next move.

Texas Hold tricks are all about using your mind and your observation. If you have the skill to read your opponents you can definitely come out on the winning side.

Texas Drivers Education – Existing Programs and Most Up-to-Date Amendments

Texas drivers education consists of a series of procedures suitable for everyone – private or commercial drivers ed instructors, parent-taught programs, driver courses for adults, traditional or internet based programs, but you are expected to be aware of the fact that every driver training instructor, school or course supplier is, regardless of being private or commercial, has to be certified by the Driver Training Division and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

One has to meet the legal requirements so as to earn a driving license – your age should be at least 16 or, if not, having used the learner's authorization for a minimum of 6 months; that is why, a lot of teens initiate their legal driving education at the age of 15, so that before being aged 16, having a lot of time to drive under the attention of a tutor.

There are particular patterns you need to be concerned about before enrolling in a driving school's courses, regarding driving regulations and conditions, new amendments and laws:

* every new driver in Texas driving education courses must earn more experience in driving before becoming a legal driver (81st Texas legislature, Less Tears More Years Act, from September 1, 2009) Young drivers have to receive a supplementary 20 hours of driving time, therefore increasing the compulsory driving hours from 14 to 34. These hours have to be certified by a tutor or guardian before a young driver may proceed to stage 2 of Texas' Graduated Driver Licensing program, and must add a minimum of ten hours at nighttime. This amendment is relevant to both parent taught and common Texas drivers education course.

* also, Driving Bill 2730, effective since September 1, 2009 denotes that all drivers under 18 years old must complete a driving test, meaning that once you complete a Texas drivers education course, you have to take a drivers test at your local DPS office so as to receive your drivers license;

* as indicated by the law, if you are a student that has applied for the Parent-Taught Driver Education Course before November 1, 2009 and has not earned the driving license yet, the Department of Public Safety in Texas will permit you to finish the course, but you are not able to attend Course 101 if you registered in or after November 1, 2009;

* according to the Texas law, persons agreed between 18 and 25 who wish to become authorized drivers have to complete a six hour driver education program exclusively designed for adults or finish a minor and adult driver education course that is a component of the Texas drivers instruction course (effective March 1, 2010); Texas drivers education is composed by two differentiated instruction departments: behind-the-wheel instruction and drivers ed coursework.

The parent-taught program is addressed to teens aged between 14 and 17, deals with both student and parent, and the tutor or guardian must monitor in-car driving and sign-off the completion of each objective. A teen applicant for a Texas drivers education program is able to initiate the training at the age of 14, but is not able to achieve the learner's authorization before age.

Driving Under the Influence for Minors in Texas

As driving schools throughout Texas are doing their best to highlight; the Lone Star State does have issues with drunk driving. For the past several years, Texas has led the country in drunken driving fatalities. Texas is also the only state in the country to consistently clear 1,000 fatalities (1,235 in 2009, 1,258 in 2010, and 1270 in 2011). These statistics aren’t even including alcohol related injury and property damage, which are numbers that climb even higher.

The truth that must be confronted is that Texas has a clear problem with intoxication and driving. Driving schools continue to teach and inform the gravity of the ever increasing drunk driving penalties. Good habits begin in driving school and stretch into the future, as roughly 15% of drunken driving fatalities are due to the impairment of a driver under 21 years old (the legal drinking limit). Harsher laws have been developed in an attempt to curb the increasing mortalities; laws that can severely debilitate a young driver’s financial and driving independence. The following is a rundown of some of the underage drinking and driving laws in Texas, and how those laws can make things harder for a minor who runs the risk and is caught.

Zero Tolerance

Firstly, Texas is a Zero Tolerance state. This means that if a minor who is pulled over under suspicion is found to have ANY DETECTABLE amount of alcohol in their system, they have immediately committed a DUIA (Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol) crime; even if their BAC is under the legal limit. As a minor, they should have no contact with alcohol to begin with, thus driving while drinking any amount is that much more serious.

The Test

When pulled over, the minor will be asked to submit to a breathalyzer test to check their BAC. Once again, if any BAC level is blown, the minor will be charged. However, refusing the test could be much worse. Refusing the breathalyzer, blood test, or field sobriety test will result in IMMEDIATE license suspension for a minimum of 120 days, with suspension increasing for a second and third offense. On top of the suspension, the minor can be placed in jail and held until bond is made or they appear before a magistrate of Juvenile Court.

The DUIA

The penalties themselves are very much reliant on oh the judge’s discretion, though there are definite benchmarks of minimum and maximum. The givens laws for DUIA offenses are:

1st Offense DUIA – Class C misdemeanor with up to a $500.00 fine and between 20-40 hours community service. Driver’s license can be suspended for up to a full year, and completion of an Alcohol Awareness Course at driving school is required. If the minor is under 18, their parent may be required to take the course as well.

2nd Offense DUIA – Class C misdemeanor with up to a $500.00 fine and between 40-60 hours community service. License suspension for up to a full year as well as the Alcohol Awareness Course is required.

3rd Offense DUIA – If the driver is under 17, the DUIA is filed as “Delinquent Conduct.” Punishment is up to a $500.00 fine and between 40-60 hours community service. License will be suspended until the minor is 19 years or older

– If the minor is 17 years or older, the DUIA is a class B misdemeanor that carries a fine of at least $500.00 up to $2,000.00, 40-60 hours community service, and up to 180 days in jail.

The trouble simply is not worth the risk. Thousands of adults and children meet their end each year due to a preventable drunken driving accident. These laws are in place to deter and prevent fatalities so that we can begin to chip away at these regrettable statistics. For more information, contact your local driving school. And remember, Zero Tolerance.

Texas Hold Tournament Strategy – Poker Tournament Betting Basics

Welcome to the third in my Texas Holdem Strategy Series, focusing on no limit Texas Holdem poker tournament play and associated strategies. In this article, we'll build up the poker tournament strategy fundamentals from last time, with some important poker betting strategy basics.

Winning at Texas Holdem poker does not have to be a gamble, since it's actually a game of skill. Of course, there will always be an element of chance, but there's a lot more strategy and skill to poker than meets the untrained eye. When you learn to play the odds properly, it can make a huge difference in your winnings.

No limit Texas Holdem is the game of choice these days – and for good reason. The fact that anyone can decide to push a large raise or all of their chips into the pot by going "all-in" at any moment, adds an exciting dimension to the game. Unlike limit Texas Holdem, where each round of betting takes place in prescribed, fixed increments, no limit Texas Holdem is as varied as the players at the table, since everyone chooses their own betting style and approach.

When playing no limit Texas Holdem, you're faced with some important decisions. Arguably, the most important decision you'll make is how much to bet in a given set of circumstances; eg, hand strength, your position at the table, total number of players, their styles, etc. There are many different betting strategies, but one of the first things to learn and pay close attention to are "pot odds" and if you have a positive "expectation" to win.

You have a positive expectation whenever the odds favor you winning more than you're wagering at anything greater than 1 to 1 odds. For example, when flipping a coin, there is a 50/50 chance of it coming up either heads or tails. If you flip a coin enough times, both heads and tails will come up an equal number of times.

Casino games, such as craps, blackjack, slot machines, etc. all give the player a "negative" expectation and the casino a positive expectation. If you play these types of "gambling" games long enough, you will absolutely lose, since the game's odd structure is never in your favor – negative expectation. People who experience "hot streaks" also have losing streaks (they just usually quickly forget about the losing and do not discuss it). When you're making a wager, you've always preferred to have a positive expectation. This is generally true in poker, but not necessarily always in no-limit poker. I'll explain why.

Pot Odds are the odds the pot is giving you for making a bet. Let's say there is $ 50 in the pot and it'll take $ 10 more to call – you're getting 5-to-1 pot odds to call, since if you win you'll be paid $ 50 in exchange for risking only $ 10. For purposes of this decision, any amounts you previously placed into this pot are irrelevant, since they're already expired and gone (if you fold).

It's essential to understand pot odds as it relates to your hand odds, as one key factor in making your betting decisions. If the odds of you holding or drawing to the winning hand are better than the odds the pot is giving you, you should call or even sometimes raise; otherwise, you should typically fold (unless you're going to bluff, a different story).

Continuing this example, let's say you're holding a pair of fives, and the board flops 9, K, 2 "rainbow" (no flush draw, different suits). With 9 players at the table, it's certainly possible and likely that someone else holds a King or a Nine, or both, making your 5's look pretty flimsy at this point. Your best shot to win is to draw another 5. There are two more 5's remaining out of the 47 cards that you can not see (in the deck or in another player's hand).

So, the odds of pulling that next 5 on the turn or river are: 2 in 47 (2/47 = about 4%) on the Turn, plus another 2 in 46 on the River (an additional 4%), for a total of roughly 8.6%, which equates to a 1-in-11.6 chance of pulling that third 5 to make a set. Since the pot is only giving 5-to-1 odds, it's generally time to fold. Otherwise, you'd just be "gambling" with a highly negative expectation of losing that additional $ 10. In no limit Texas Holdem, players will often raise the pot adequately to actually lower your pot odds so far that you can not possibly justify staying in the hand – at least not statistically.

Obviously you can not sit there in a real poker room with a calculator and run through all of these pot odds calculations while at the table! So, how does one learn poker odds well enough to apply them in real-time? Well, it starts by seeing the poker odds repeatedly, in a context that's suitable for you to learn and eventually retain them. A poker odds calculator is a piece of add-on software that runs on your PC, monitoring your actual online play. A poker odds calculator computes the prospective hands you and your opponents are capable of drawing at any point in time. It then displays all possible hands you and the opponents could draw, teaching you what the odds of making that kind of hand would be.

This makes it easy to see what's going on, and since a poker odds calculator shows the poker odds right there in front of you while you play, you'll begin to learn them, making it semi-automatic, so you do not even think about poker odds any more – you just know them. So, the first step is learning and internalizing these "hand odds". Then, you can quickly calculate pot odds anytime you'd like.

Calculating pot odds requires you to pay close attention to the game, a key trait of good poker tournament players. Unlike playing online, where the total size of the pot is easy to determine (the online Texas Hold poker program typically shows the pot amount right there on the screen for you), when you play in traditional offline poker tournaments, you must keep track of the pot size and chip count yourself, so you can estimate the pot odds and your best betting options.

Pot odds became especially interesting as the blinds and antes increase as the tournament progresses. Let's say there are 10 players at your table, and the poker tournament structure has you at $ 25 antes with $ 200 / $ 400 blinds. That's a total of $ 850 that's sitting thre in each and every pot before anyone even places their first bet! So, before you even look at your hand, you know that the minimum bet is $ 400, so you'll need a good hand (with roughly 1 in 2 odds or better) in order to simply break even.

At this point, people will be angling to "steal the blinds" by placing a hefty bet, typically at least two times the big blind, or $ 800, in order to make the pot odds so unattractive that everyone just folds. Therefore, the first player to act often makes off with the booty, since the pot odds become even less attractive and most everyone has not made a good enough hand to call. Of course, this can definitely backfire …

Let's say the first player to bet raises to $ 800 in an attempt to steal the blinds, making the total pot now $ 1,650. Let's say that a second player then calls with another $ 800, boosting this pot to $ 2,450. To get in on the action, you've only need to call with $ 800, which means if you win the hand you're getting a better better than 3 to 1 on your money. If it's the Flop and you are one card short of making a king-high flush, then your hand odds are roughly 1-in-3. This would be "even money" if you joined in on this basis alone; However, you're holding a King and there's a King on the board from the Flop, so you now have a better than 1 in 3 chance of winning – a positive expectation! You place your $ 800 bet, so now the pot sits at $ 3,250.

You should generally make this bet, since it will yield a good return and you have the high pair (Kings), plus a flush draw, thereby improving your odds even further. Let's say there was an Ace also showing, making your Kings second best pair. In this case, it time to fold because you have a less than a 1 in 3 chance of winning this hand, and if you continued throwing money at this pot, you'll end up "pot-committed" and beaten by a pair of Aces (there's usually at least one player in 10 hanging in there with an Ace hole card).

So, let's say the last player to act goes "All-in" – after we've put our $ 800 in this pot. Now what? The first reaction should be – what kind of hand * could * this player actually hold? If the player is a relatively tight or solid player, chances are they made a set or an Ace high flush. It's always possible they're bluffing, but very unknowingly if they're a good player, since there are already far too many people in this pot and it's probably they'd get called with a real hand when bluffing.

So, what's happened to our pot odds? Let's say they went all-in with $ 5,000, pushing this pot up to $ 8,250. If you call with $ 5,000, you're now only getting a 8.25 to 5 return, or roughly 1.65 to 1 – especially unattractive under the circumstances with highly negative expectation and so many players in this hand, further reducing your chances of winning. Therefore, everyone will likely just fold; unless they have a very strong hand plus a great draw (some outs).

There's clearly a lot more to poker betting strategy, including position and acting first vs. last. Generally speaking, though, if you're going to take a shot at that pot, and you're in a position to act first, there's a good chance everyone else will fold; however, you'd better think carefully about the pot odds the opponents will be getting after your bet is in there.

If your bet modifies the pot size such that it improves their pot odds (by limping in with just a small bet), you're actually encouraging the opponents to hang in there with you, since they still have a good, positive (and improving ) expectation level. If you bet enough, such as two to three times the size of the big blind, you'll be reducing their pot odds enough to swing into a negative expectation, so they'll be much more likely to fold. It's really important to think your bet amounts through and understand the pot odds implications of your betting.

When you make such a play at the pot, it's ideal to have some kind of hand, along with a good draw. If you find yourself short-stacked, then this may be as good as it gets. Bluffing will be covered more thoroughly in a later article, but at this point it would be great to have at least a small pair, as well as a good straight or flush draw (since you'll also have the potential to make a set of trips, too). In this situation, you have so many good "outs" that your small pair begins to look a lot stronger, and your hand odds acceptable enough to go on a "semi-bluff" at this pot.

So, these are the basics of Texas Holdem poker tournament betting strategy that you should know and practice (the other good players do). Knowing your basic hand odds and being capable of quickly calculating pot odds are essential to making intelligent betting decisions under fire in poker tournaments, and regular ring game and limit play for that matter. A good poker odds calculator will help you learn the hand odds, and along with practicing calculating your pot odds, you'll be making better decisions and getting the best of it the next time you play Texas Hold poker.

In the next article, we'll explore a popular Texas Holdem poker tournament format – the Sit & Go poker tournament. Until then, have fun. And as always – good luck!
