Small Town vs. Big City Life

It's a small world. I've been traveling for a couple of weeks and everywhere I go I meet people from Texas. Earth, Shamrock, Farwell, Littlefield. You are everywhere. When people ask me where I am from there are two responses. The first response is curiosity. That response is from people who have never been to West Texas. They wonder about my transition from big city life to small town life.

One woman described her daily 55 mile commute from Albuquerque to Santa Fe. For two years she bulldo an additional 20 miles to complete graduate school. On top of that she has a husband and two small children who require her attention. I remember those days. I invited to work, class, and an internship while I was in graduate school in Philadelphia. Thousand of other people in the area drove from place to place. The travel seemed endless and the traffic was awful.

When I moved to upstate New York to work on my doctorate, I was conscious of how much stress I would leave behind. The simple life was very appealing. After I finished my studies I stayed for a while and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Going back to visit the city intent traffic, crowds, and unpredictable daily interactions. When I lived there I did not notice any of those things.

The second reaction I get when people ask me where I live is complete understanding. These people usually tell me that they are from somewhere close by. Often, they have moved elsewhere and returned to their West Texas towns. A judge from one small town described his commute. Ten minutes after he finishes tying his tie, he is on the bench raising his first case. He and his wife raised three children in his town and are happy to stay there.

I believe that the flashiness and excitement of city life is fiction. In movies and television, people live fabulous lives and are always in the middle of an adventure. The daily grind is never published in an honest way. We see huge apartments, glamorous work, and beautiful people. In reality, there is more happening in the city, good and bad. There are more people, good and bad. The frequency of good and bad days is about the same. Is it exciting? Yes, there is constant activity. The rest is Hollywood fantasy. The police do not look like Will Smith and the waitresses do not look like Jennifer Aniston. It would be nice though!

One of the benefits of being a student at Wayland is the option to take classes at the external campuses. There are campuses in large cities like Phoenix, San Antonio, and Albuquerque where students can experience a change of atmosphere and see different lifestyles. The biggest difference is that those campuses cater to adult students. People with jobs, families, and other obligations take classes at night and on weekends. What we call "non-traditional" students are actually people who have interesting lives, maybe a few of them are even glamorous, but the priorities are the same. Getting an education and having a better life.

Now that I think of it there are fellow small town people who do not understand the appeal to people like me. They think it is too predictable and boring. They are realistic about the lack of opportunities in a closed community, but their ideas about bustling city life are usually based on television or movies. Their eyes glaze over and they ask why anyone would ever choose this over that. I would choose a TV life too, if I had a choice. Giant apartments, evening gowns, and exotic vacations are very attractive, that's why we see them all the time! But people are people and I would choose small town people any time. In fact, I already have.

Carry Or Roll? Which New Titleist DT Golf Ball Is Right For You

Titleist golf has just introduced two new golf balls in their DT line of golf balls. The Titleist DT Carry golf ball and the Titleist DT Roll golf ball. Meeting the needs of golfers that deal with different playing conditions puts these golf clubs at the top of every golfer's wish list.

Once you match your golf balls to your style of play, you might notice an improvement in your game.
Sometimes a change of ball might be all you need to nudge your handicap in the right direction if progress has stalled recently.

Let's review the new Titleist Carry and Roll and see how they will improve your game.

The Titleist DT Roll golf ball allows golfers that play in windy conditions, on links style golf courses, or need a little more distance, to play with confidence. The Titleist DT Roll golf balls combine a new tenant core technology with more dimples to produce it's boring trajectory. Great for people that live in Texas or the coastal states where wind is a huge factor.

The new Titleist DT Carry golf ball are for those golfers that need the benefits of longer distance, greater carry and a higher ball flight. The Titleist DT Carry golf ball gives the golfer that plays on harder courses with carries over bunkers on their approach shots the ability to get the ball on the correct trajectory for a winning shot. If you are a golfer that likes hitting the ball higher and dropping it in on the flag like a dart, the Titleist DT Carry is the ball for you.

How Much Will Car Insurance Go Up With a DUI?

How much more insurance will cost after a DUI conviction depends on a variety of factors. Geography is a major one since different states have different requirements for their DUI drivers. Another big factor is how much change to an existing policy is required for compliance with new requirements. Also, penalty point surcharges and underwriting rules are different from each company.

Increased liability limits is a common and costly requirement for DUI drivers, and the amount depends on their state of residence. Florida has the largest increase requiring 100/300/50 split limits or 300,000 combined single limit which is ten times the minimum requirement for drivers without DUI. Evidence of compliance is required by a Florida FR44 Form filing (submission) to the Florida Bureau of Financial Responsibility. Another good example is Virginia where liability requirements for convicted drivers are 50/100/40 which is double for other drivers. Virginia also utilizes the FR44 form as proof of required insurance for DUI drivers.

Many drivers already have elevated liability limits on their policy before a conviction and therefore would incur no additional cost associated with raising limits. For example, anyone leasing a car is required to maintain 100/300/50 liability limits. Drivers who are accredited to carrying minimum limits, which is quite common, experience the greatest increased cost. In addition to coverage amounts, there are different requirements from each state for their DUI convicted drivers. One expensive example of these differenting state requirements is the annual fine for three years of $ 1,000.00 in Texas.

The number of points assigned to a DUI conviction and their incremental rate increase depends on the underwriting rules and guidelines from each company. Consistently this type of conviction triggers the highest risk category. Companies that have no "appetite" for high risk drivers charge astronomical rates in this grouping. However, there are companies in certain areas that desire these policies and provide competitive pricing for them. As a risk group, DUI drivers in Florida and Virginia have recently proven to be especially profitable for insurance companies. This recent revelation has come about, due to the ease of identifying and assigning results to DUI drivers, because as of 2008 they are the only ones required to file FR44 form.

There are companies that will automatically not renew a policy when a driver receives a DUI conviction. Those willing to consider renewal may not do so because of accumulated existing points. Most companies will only extend a cost saving prior insurance discount when a renewal offer has been extended. Other underwriting guidelines and rate tier placement impact the cost of a policy as well, and they are different from each company.

Basically, how much car insurance is going to cost after a DUI comes down to where the driver lives, what company and policy is currently in force, and how successfully a policyholder shops around. Knowing the requirements can help build a strategy to lessen the impact of a rate increase. Fortunately, there are companies that encourage applicants with a DUI conviction by competing with lower cost policies.

Texas Confidential

Cowboy lovers out there get ready, because this series will have the fantasy wheels rolling! This series is the sole reason why I got so addicted to Harlequin. Or as my husband would say obsessed …

This is a four part series was published by four different authors. Although, this original series is older if you are on Amazon, or at a mom and pop book store grab it! In case your not into the cowboy thing (but honestly who is not) this is not the only series these four have put together. Moriah's Landing was published two years after this incredible story and also one of my favorites.

For a sneak peek into these four books I've done a quick review of each.

The Bodyguard's Assignment ~ by Amanda Stevens
This book starts with the main plot that is pretty intense with a major drug-lord raising havoc in all four books. With a typical Harlequin Intrigue plot Grace and Brady are ex-lovers still fighting out old feelings for each other while fighting to stay alive. This story actually kept me on the edge through the entire book which made the same old plot exciting.

The Agent's Secret Child ~ by BJ Daniels
Really laying out the suspense in this one, Daniels has you at the edge of your seat waiting for the next little piece from the moment you starting reading. Agent Jake Cantrell is on the search to find a missing woman and her child. A child that could possibly be his. Although you are pretty sure where this story is headed, you find yourself itching to read more.

The Specialist ~ by Dani Sinclair
The whole transforming a mousy quiet little thing into a Femme Fatale was quite humorous. Sinclair has never really failed at keeping me interested. This book was cute and corky with still enough suspense to keep up with the others.

The Outsider's Redemption ~ by Joanna Wayne
The initial shock within the first few pages had me hooked, the story line between Cody and Sarah was almost uncomfortable at times. Wrapping up the story was smooth and answered all the questions from the first. Overall I enjoyed it.

Overview of Online Poker Games

Online poker games have been increasing in popularity in the recent past, to an estimated that there are probably more people playing online poker today than there are playing traditional poker.

The workings of online poker, for anyone who takes the time to think about it deeply, are a marvel in the real sense of the word. Who would have known, before the possibility to play poker online came, that it would be possible for a person in the United States to play against a person in China – and in real time? And who would have known that it would have been possible, in the fullness of time, to design a program that would simulate the human mind at playing poker so that in the absence of a partner to play with, one can still play against the machine?

About a decade since the opportunity to play poker online became available to the masses (after a reasonable trial period in the hands of the geeks who made it all possible), and we find virtually all types of poker available online: from Texas Hold'em poker, to Titan poker, CD poker and pretty much any other type of poker one can think of. Indeed, it is only through after the opportunity to play poker online became widely available to everyone that previously little known (in some places), but highly exciting forms of poker, like sportsbook poker and carbon poker came to be widely known, turning into many peoples' favorites in a short period of time thereafter.

Now where poker is played, money tends to change hands – and it is perhaps for this reason that online poker games have come to be among the most popular games in the various online casinos. The beauty of online poker games for casino application, and unlike other types of games previously played in online casinos like roulette or slots, is the fact that poker is a widely played game, a game which workings almost everyone with an interest in these things knows ; and therefore a game in which one is not likely to be wary of putting their money into.

According to website that collects statistics on various online games, online poker games are among the most highly rated (scoring, on average, more than 8.0 on a scale of 0 to 10), and also among the most widely played, as judged through the amounts of money put into them.

Besides the fact that poker is a games which workings are well known by almost everyone with an interest in gaming, another factor that could possibly explain the popularity of online poker games in the online casinos is the fact that next luck luck, winning in online poker games (as indeed all types of poker) also depends on a players skill, so that a person who invests the time and effort required to improve their poker could end up making a real fortune from their poker hobby, and maybe even turn it into a job . Of course, this is a great difference from other types of games played in the online casinos (like say roulette or slots), in which success tends to be purely speculative, and where the player's skills does not count a great deal in determining their winning or losing opportunities on any particular day.

Generating Web Site Traffic Tips

Generating web site traffic is not as hard
as some people might think. If your site's
content is search engine friendly, you will
make your job much easier.

Targeted traffic is what you absolutely wants.
You do not want people looking for contact
lenses if you only sell glasses right!

People who come to your site are either
first time visitors or repeat visitors.

Generating web site traffic for
your online business is making sure
your visitors take some kind of action;

– If you have an opt-in list you can
capture their name and email address.
That way you build a list that you
can send them emails to inform them
about new information on your site
or some special offer you might have.

– Download something for free to
subscribe to your list.
Like a report or ebook.

– Take a survey. Give your target
what they want by asking them.

– Buy something from you.
That's the ultimate goal.

Generating web site traffic is making
sure your site is displayed in the search
engines (Google, Yahoo! and Windows Live
Search -formerly MSN- are the
three most popular) when web surfers
search for your pages content.

You want your site
to be displayed on the first two pages
when somebody searches for your
information.

Search terms used by web surfers
are called keywords and your web site
pages should be optimized for those
keywords. Long search terms are
usually the most targeted.

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is
your goal. You want your site prominently
displayed in the search engines results or
high page rank.

Generating web site traffic will be easier
when web surfers find you in the top
20 results of their searches. Because
most of them never go to page 3 or more.

But how do you find those keywords?

There are free tools available;

Google – https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Yahoo! – http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

Wordtracker – http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/

Again, you should aim for the most targeted keyword.
The longer the better.

For example; If I am selling poker tips ebooks and videos.
I am going to optimize for;

– texas holdem tips ebook

– texas holdem tips video

– texas holdem training videos

-etc.

You will have a much better chance of ranking high
for those terms because there's much less competition
for general terms like "poker".

The Best Place to Live in Czech Republic: Brno

Considering a move to the Czech republic? You would not be the first or last person temped by baroque architecture and plentiful cheap beer. But instead of following the selfie stick masses to Prague it may be worthwhile to consider the Czech's second largest city, Brno.

Located in South Moravia at the confluence of the Svitava and Svratka rivers, Brno has about 800,000 inmates. It's been said to be a better place to live than New York, and while that may be a bit hyperbolic, it does have many redeeming qualities. The following is a short compilation of why this little known city is the best place to live in the Czech Republic.

  • Size: with less than a million people this city perfectly strikes the balance between providing variety and maintaining integrity. Walking in the city center feels as if one is in a quaint Czech village. Yet this does not come at the price of boredom, with the city reflecting professional sports, an exhibition center, thriving nightlife, a world UNESCO heritage site, thriving cafe culture, a motorcycle grand prix, and wide range of parks / attractions.
  • Location: It is difficult to find a more central point in the whole of Europe than South Moravia. One can travel to Prague, Budapest, or Vienna within a matter of hours, and cities such as Berlin or Milan in slightly longer. Transit within the city is also exceptionally good, with a streetcar and bus system that makes getting around the city a breeze. Not having a car here is more convenient than most cities in the world.
  • Culture: Brno is a college town more or less, but does not let its high student population override its identity completely. Between Masaryk University, Mendel University and VUT, the city is home to an average of 100,000 students which give it a nice youthful energy. Coupled with that is a burgeoning tech industry and a strong middle class ethical that gives a feel of vibrancy but not excess. Again variable is key. Want to go to the opera or an art museum? Check. Eat good Indian food? No problem. Get drunk at hockey match? Done!

This is simply scratching the surface of what this town has to offer. In terms of nature the city is home to a couple large parks, an arboretum, and the Moravian Karsts are not more than a short drive from town. Cost of living (by European standards) is quite low, and spending power is relatively high. Comparatively ignored by tourists Brno has a sense of being undiscovered … but it's certainly worth a look.

Seven Secrets You Need To Know Before You Fish Bay Area Houston

Those that choose to fish Bay Area Houston (BAH) absolutely love the area. For those not in the know, Bay Area Houston (BAH) is a part of Texas that encompasses the area between Houston & Galveston. Bay Area Houston thrives on its proximity to Galveston Bay & the Gulf of Mexico, boasting nearly forty miles of coastline that contribute greatly to the economic success of the region. The area also is home to NASA’s Johnston Space Center, which makes it an integral part of the U.S. space program, as well as the country’s history.

Anglers in the know understand that Bay Area Houston (BAH) has a lot going on in terms of its fishing scene, and for those interested in getting in on the action, these same anglers are willing to pull back the curtain a bit regarding what makes this area of southeast Texas so special for fishing.

Here are seven “secrets” you should know before you decide to fish Bay Area Houston:

Guided Fishing – You don’t have to go at it alone in BAH. Guided fishing tours take are available in abundance. For example, Bay Bound Guide Service is quick to note that you don’t have to be a pro angler to have fun. Captain Fred George has been a year-round fishing guide on the Galveston Bay System for over 15 years & even puts together guided trips based on a client’s preference.

You Don’t Need Your Own Boat – Maybe you’re big on fishing, but you don’t want to travel with a boat. That’s OK because companies like Clear Lake & Galveston Power Boats has you covered. Depending on your needs, they have water crafts of all sizes to take care of you.

Dress It Up or Down – Most fishermen like to tailor their trip around them, but this can get tough when you travel somewhere new. Don’t worry because companies like Frazier’s Guide Service aim to make things fun even for “newbies”. Ralph Frazier is a highly decorated & respected angler and has been a pro fishing guide for over four decades.

Brackish Water – Brackish water is a combination of salt & fresh water. It’s an interesting make-up & one that can be found in the BAH area. Clear Lake Texas Fishing Trips is a guided fishing company that understands this & helps visitors navigate this unique feature.

Educational – The various guide services are always looking to teach people about fishing, enjoying the activity, preservation of the area, as well as the technology associated with sport. The aforementioned Bay Bound Guide Service, along with Maher’s Guide Service & Bay Adventures Sportfishing, all focus on teaching the craft while having fun.

Options – Sometimes when you fish in an area, you know that you’ll be catching one or two types of fish. BAH has many options due to its unique geographic location & mixing of waters from different sources. Trout, flounder, mackerel, sheepshead, and drum are just some of the fish you will come across.

Dedicated Service – Perhaps the one secret that really isn’t a secret is that many of the guide services & water craft rental companies have either been in business at least about two decades or have owners & operators that have as much as four decades worth of experience, and all of this experience goes toward making sure everyone learns something & has fun.

It’s easy to see why those that fish Bay Area Houston (BAH) are destined to become life-long fans of the area, and that is perhaps the biggest ‘secret’ of all – you just don’t know what you’re missing until you’re here!
